The Donald S. Macdonald Internship Scholarship

The Donald S. Macdonald Intern Scholarship is available to assist students with the financial costs associated with participating in an internship.  It is to be awarded to 1-2 undergraduate student(s) enrolled in the Peace, Conflict and Justice undergraduate program at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, based on academic merit and participation in an international or domestic internship placement with government, non-governmental organizations, or the private sector.

In addition to standard application instructions, students should request that internship hosts send a letter confirming their participation, applicant’s role, program duration, and whether the internship is paid/unpaid to pcj.program@utoronto.ca.

Dr. Anatol Rapoport Award in Peace & Conflict Studies

[open to 3rd/4th year, or graduating students]

The Dr. Anatol Rapoport Award in Peace & Conflict Studies is available to PCJ students with preference to a student working in the areas of game theory and mathematics psychology.

Interested students should submit a one-page letter indicating whether you are working in game theory and mathematical psychology, and how it has affected your understanding of peace, conflict and justice.

Louis Savlov Scholarship in Peace & Conflict Studies

The Louis Savlov Scholarship in Peace & Conflict Studies recognizes academic performance and involvement in activities related to the peace, conflict and justice program.

Pearson Entrance Scholarship

[open to PCJ students in any year of study]

The Pearson Entrance Scholarship is available to provide funds to cover tuition expenses for a PCJ student with preference for a student from Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific of Victoria, B.C.

For those who attended Pearson College, please submit a maximum two page application on how your education at Pearson College informed your understanding of Peace and Conflict Studies and contributed to your interest in the subject matter.

Pearson In-Course Scholarship

[open to PCJ students in any year of study]

The Pearson In-Course Scholarship is to provide funds to support students in the Peace, Conflict and Justice program to pursue an internship, study abroad and/or field research.

Applicants must submit:

  1. A maximum two-page essay outlining their internship (organization, role, program duration , paid/unpaid), study abroad (exchange destination, host institution, semester of exchange, intended coursework) or field research plans (topic, date of departure, duration, research methodology)

Terry Gardner Scholarship

[open to a PCJ student who is not graduating in June or November 2022]

To be awarded to a third year undergraduate student studying peaceful approaches to preventing and resolving conflicts among individuals, and groups and/or finding just solutions to ongoing global and local issues. Recipient’s studies MUST be focused on peace studies.

Applicants must submit a one-page, essay outlining their program of study and/or project/research, and how it relates to the study of, and/or will allow them to pursue, peaceful approaches to preventing and/or resolving conflicts among individuals and groups and/or finding just solutions to ongoing global and local issues.

Recipients must satisfy the eligibility requirements of the OTSS program (must be receiving OSAP).

Research Grants & Awards

William Beattie Scholarships in Peace, Conflict and Justice

All applications are due by Monday March 28, 2022 at 11:59 PM EDT.

The William Beattie Fund for Undergraduate Research is available to PCJ students to support research travel overseas that is associated with:

  1. An approved directed-reading course focusing on a topic relevant to peace, conflict and justice; or
  2. Participation in a study abroad program;  or
  3. Participation in an internship opportunity abroad

For #1: Prepare a letter of application which includes a detailed plan for foreign travel and research (topic, date of departure, duration, research methodology etc.) and an outline of the directed-reading course (including confirmation of the agreement of an instructor to oversee the project).

For #2: : Prepare a letter of application which includes an outline of your study abroad plans: university, term of exchange, intended coursework, and your motivation

For #3: Prepare a letter of application which outlines the internship organization, role, program duration, and whether paid or unpaid. The letter should include an outline of your motivation for the internship. Internship hosts must send a letter confirming the applicants’ participation to pcj.program@utoronto.ca.

NOTE:

  • Beattie Awards are not intended to cover a student’s full travel and research budget, so supplemental funding should also be sought from other sources.

Fullerton Scholarship/Fullerton OSOTF Scholarships

Fullerton/Fullerton OSOTF Scholarships are available to assist PCJ students who are completing original research in the field. This will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. OSOTOF scholarships are reserved specifically for students who qualify for OSAP. If applicable, please include a copy of your OSAP assessment.

Interested students should submit a letter of application for funding that includes a detailed plan for foreign travel and research (topic, date of departure, duration, research methodology etc.) and an outline of the directed-reading course (including confirmation of the agreement of an instructor to oversee the project).

The Kiessling Papers

Applications are due by  Monday May 2, 2022 at 11:59 PM EDT.

The Kiessling Papers are published regularly by the Trudeau Centre for Peace, Conflict and Justice with the generous sponsorship of Greg Kiessling and Pam Isaak.  The series provides undergraduate students enrolled in the Peace, Conflict and Justice (PCJ) program the opportunity to publish and share their research with the scholarly community. The winning submission will be adjudicated by The Kiessling Selection Committee and the awardee will receive $1,500.

Applications for the 2021-2022 Kiessling Papers will be accepted until May 2, 2022. The winner will be notified and announced to the PCJ community in May 2022.

How to Apply: 

Please submit the following materials to pcj.program@utoronto.ca. The email subject line should be “Kiessling Papers – Last Name, First Name” and the file names should be “Last Name, First Name – Submission/Cover Letter/CV/Transcript”.

  • Submission –  PCJ students are invited to submit high-quality original research for consideration. The submission can be an assignment completed as part of course work, independent study, or other research relevant to issues of peace, conflict and justice
  • Cover Letter – include a brief (150-250 word) abstract about the submission and any relevant information about the context of the submission (such as if it was completed as part of a course assignment, independent research project, field research project, etc.)
  • Curriculum Vitae or Resume – include your student number and year of study
  • Transcript – PDF from ACORN

 


Advanced Service Learning

Advanced service learning opportunities (commonly referred to as internships) are individual placements open to PCJ students for Fall 2022 (September – December) and Winter 2023 (January – April). These opportunities are different from the group-placements offered through PCJ362H: Service Learning. To be eligible to participate, students must have completed PCJ260Y1. Successful applicants will be enrolled in PCJ499H1F/S and will receive 0.5 FCE. All positions are unpaid.

Trudeau Centre Fellowships in Peace, Conflict and Justice (graduate)

Application Deadline for 2022-2023: March 11, 2022 AT 11:59 PM EST

This Ph.D. Fellowship is for Political Science doctoral students conducting research in areas related to peace, conflict and justice. The recipients of this award become fellows of the Trudeau Centre for Peace, Conflict and Justice and participate in its academic life.

Application Requirements: 

Applications for the fellowships must include a précis (maximum 2 pages) of their dissertation project, C.V., and unofficial transcript. Please also indicate your year of study, student number, and list your supervisor(s), if applicable.

Selection will be based on the recommendation of the Director of the Trudeau Centre in consultation with the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Political Science.

  • Name each file as Lastname_Firstinitial_attachmentname_awardname.pdf
