SPPG Alum James Drummond prepares OECD report – Behavioural Insights and Public Policy

SPPG Alum James Drummond has helped prepare the OECD’s new report on Behavioural Insights and Public Policy: Lessons From Around the World.
This publication was created to fill the need identified during the seminal OECD NAEC-GOV Seminar on Behavioural Insights by leading practitioners for case studies and guidance for “how to” apply this science in Public Institutions.
At its core, this publication is about breaking down silos and providing comparative material for policy makers around the world. It is now seen as a reference point and landmark publication in the field for three key reasons:
- The report also provides a unique assessment of how this new approach and science is being applied in public institutions, from federal and local governments to regulatory agencies. This includes survey data from 60 nudge units, providing key insights to the development of the BI field.
- The report provides a repository of over 100 international case studies of applying behavioural insights in consumer protection, education, energy, environment, finance, health and safety, labour market policies, public service delivery, taxes and telecommunications. These come from an overall sample of nearly 160 case studies provided to us and were chosen for write up specifically since they showed methodology and results, which is important for learning, replicating and evidence-based policy making.
- For the first time, the report also provides a set of guidance for practitioners on how to apply behavioural science and points to future areas of application such as organisational behaviour.
