Simply Clear Writing Fundamentals for Public Policy Graduates

February 12, 2014 | By |

With Darlene Shura, MPP 2014. About clear language and design—called ‘clear writing’.

The science of clear language (also called “plain language”) changes the way people communicate.

Darlene’s session will provide students with a true clear writing approach, so target audiences can glean information from your message quickly, and:

  • understand what they read
  • have fewer questions or complaints
  • comply with requests. This in turn reduces costly calls, rework and follow-up

Darlene will demonstrate that clear writing is not the same thing as ‘good’ or ‘effective’ writing. Clear writing enhances good writing by applying the findings of literacy and cognitive science to the writing process. The session will incorporate clear design elements that improve the readability of a document.

This workshop for MPP 2014 students is open to 20 students on a first-come/first-register basis from 1-4 pm in CG-361 (Canadiana Gallery Rm. 361).

This session has 20 available spaces, and attendance is by registration only*. To register for this session, please send a reply to p.jory-at-utoronto.ca
