Toronto, ON – The School of Public Policy and Governance (SPPG) at the University of Toronto is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Asselin as Senior Fellow.

Robert will join SPPG after serving as Policy and Budget Director (2015-2017) to the Minister of Finance of Canada at the end of November. At the School, he will contribute widely as a mentor and resource to students interested in the intersection of politics and policy. He will also aid SPPG in the design of best-in-class executive and mid-career training for policy makers. He will do so on a volunteer basis.

“Robert’s expertise in public policy – and knowledge of the financial sector – will be an invaluable asset to all of us,” said Peter Loewen, Director of the School of Public Policy and Governance. “His leadership as Associate Director of the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs brings nearly a decade of experience to our development of a School that has a very similar mandate.”

Before serving in the Department of Finance, Robert Asselin was the Associate Director of the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Ottawa from 2007 to 2015.  He also was a Visiting Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center for Scholars in Washington D.C. in 2014. He was one of Prime Minister Trudeau’s senior advisors during the last election campaign.

“I am delighted to be associated with the School of Public Policy and Governance,” said Robert Asselin. “SPPG is a leader driving public policy education and discourse across Canada. I’m looking forward to supporting the School’s work and connecting with the students soon.”
