Learning About Oppression and Anti-oppression
March 14, 2014 | By Public Policy Admin |
Theory and Practise Workshop
This workshop aims to introduce the anti-oppression framework to public policy students. Anti-oppression framework is a way to understand and respond to the complexity of the experience of oppression. It identifies the systematic ways that individuals may (1) lack access to important public services, social roles, or social spaces on the basis of their group-identities, or the ways they may be (2) vulnerable to mistreatment and violence on the basis of group-membership. Many social service providers and community service organizations deliver services and operate within this framework. This workshop is highly recommended to those who have little or no exposure to anti-oppression framework training, as well as those interested in social policy.
The workshop is facilitated by May Lui. She has over 15 years of experience working with non-profit and community service organizations.
