Policymaking and the City: Joe Pennachetti in conversation with Matt Galloway

Join former Toronto City Manager and SPPG Senior Fellow Joe Pennachetti in conversation with Matt Galloway, host of CBC Radio 99.1 FM’s Metro Morning. With 35 years of municipal financial management experience Mr. Pennachetti will reflect on his career in the public service and share his thoughts on the challenges of policymaking for cities. Among other topics, Mr. Pennachetti will reflect on how Toronto’s fiscal health and provincial-local relations have changed over the course of his career, the impact of the Toronto amalgamation, and the relationship between city council and the civil service.

About the Speakers:

Joe Pennachetti is Senior Fellow at SPPG and IMFG at the University of Toronto. As Toronto City Manager from 2008 to 2015, Mr. Pennachetti was responsible for 37,000 staff, an operating budget of $12 billion, and a $30 billion 10-year capital plan.

Matt Galloway is host of Metro Morning on CBC Radio 99.1 FM, the top rated morning radio program in Toronto. He is also the host of Podcast Playlist on CBC Radio One.
