This 3-hour seminar for second-year MPP students is based on Prof. Dean’s course Special Topics in Public Administration, more specifically on one of the core readings for the course, “Building Better Public Services.”
Prof. Dean will review key trends in public service reform and public administration. This will include:
– Pressures for reform
– The core businesses of public service organizations
– The importance of integration and collaboration across boundaries (with a focus on integrated approaches to the delivery of human services)
– Success factors in implementing key political priorities
– Leadership in the public sector

“While I will only be providing a very quick overview of these areas, I believe they are important for graduate students considering a career in a public service organization at any level of government.” (- Prof. Dean)
