Policy Talks Seminar Series: Ontario’s Trade Policy Framework

January 18, 2016 | By |

Ontario’s future prosperity and growth depend heavily on expanded and diversified trade. Over the past several years, Ontario has been directly involved in negotiations of a new comprehensive trade agreement with the European Union and has engaged regularly with the federal government throughout the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. Ontario is aggressively pursuing the reduction of inter-provincial trade barriers within Canada, and is pursuing major emerging markets such as India and China through trade promotion and possibly new agreements in the future.

This seminar is an opportunity to learn about these dramatic changes, Ontario’s role in negotiations, the complex multi-lateral negotiations processes, and Ontario’s trade policy interests in the context of its economic development agenda. Senior officials from the Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure will speak to these and other issues and engage in a facilitated discussion on a range of trade issues.

Speakers:

Victor Severino, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Strategy
Hugo Cameron, Director, Trade Policy
Hosted by Barry Goodwin, OPS Visiting Fellow

This session is a part of the ongoing Policy Talks Seminar Series.
