In Conversation with Julie Green, Member of the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly

February 3, 2020 | By |

MPP STUDENTS: Join us on Monday, February 24 to hear from Julie Green, MLA and Chair of the Special Committee to Increase the Representation of Women in the Legislative Assembly.

Julie Green was first elected to the Northwest Territories legislature in 2015 and became Chair of the Special Committee to Increase the Representation of Women in the Legislative Assembly. NWT now has the highest percentage of women of any Canadian legislature – 47 per cent in the 2019 election – as opposed to the lowest representation at 11 per cent in the 2015 election. Ms. Green is now one of nine women in the 19-member assembly. She was one of only two in 2015. Ms. Green will be at the Munk School to talk to students about this achievement and how it came about – the political commitment, the planning and the implementation process, including the steps taken to remove barriers to female participation in the political process.

The event will take place from 12:15 – 1:45 PM on February 24, 2020 in Canadiana Gallery. A light lunch will be provided.
