Student leaders are active in the policy community

MPP students are engaged in a dynamic array of leadership initiatives within the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy.  There are several co-curricular opportunities at the School for students to get involved. Read on to learn more about these initiatives.

 

Master of Public Policy Student Association

Master of Public Policy Student Association

The Master of Public Policy Student Association (MPPSA) is the elected body representing MPP students. The MPPSA is committed to building community at the School through social and co-curricular programming, providing program support to the student body, and advocating for student interests.


Beyond the Headlines

Beyond the Headlines (BTH) is a one-hour current affairs talk radio show aimed at providing a greater understanding and thoughtful discussion of the various policy and global affairs issues in our daily news headlines. BTH aims to take listeners beyond the immediacy of our daily news. Our show airs on Mondays from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EST on CIUT 89.5 FM.

Consulting Careers Initiative @ The Munk School

The Consulting Careers Initiative (CCI) assists students in the Master of Global Affairs and Master of Public Policy with their professional development and career goals in consultingCCI introduces students to consulting as a potential career path and provides them with the necessary tools and networking opportunities to bolster their success in recruitment. CCI exists to support two distinct goals: (1) To highlight the strengths of Munk students, and (2) to exist as an effective training mechanism to ensure students succeed through the consulting interview processes. CCI collaborates with leading industry partners to host case competitions, consulting workshops, and networking opportunities to achieve these goals.

Equity, Diversity and Public Policy Initiative

The Equity, Diversity, and Public Policy Initiative (EDPP) promotes the adoption of an intersectional lens in policy analysis. EDPP is a graduate student-led organization at the University of Toronto at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy and encourages the discussion of gender and identity-based inequalities in the realm of public policy in collaboration with Munk School student initiatives, faculty and administration, our alumni advisory group, and other networks within the University of Toronto landscape.

Ford + Munk

Ford + Munk Conference

The Ford+Munk Conference is a student-led policy conference that brings together the best and brightest future policymakers from both sides of the Canada-US border. Co-hosted annually between students from the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan and from the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto, the conference provides a unique opportunity for joint exploration, discussion and analysis.

Global Conversations

Global Conversations (GC) is a media organization run exclusively by Master of Global Affairs (MGA) students at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. GC seeks to engage the major events and trends impacting our world by offering the opinions and analyses of MGA students, accredited experts, and practitioners. In doing so, GC offers students the opportunity to write, research and publish content through analytical pieces, op-eds, blog style articles, and podcasts. We at GC believe that ideas are meant to be shared. It is through the promotion of discourse and the exchange of ideas that we can better understand the world in which we live and, in turn, change it. It is with this vision that GC has shaped its mandate of analyzing news stories that we feel are underreported or deserving of a fresh angle. We hope that you will engage with us and join the conversation.

Global Risk Observatory

The Global Risk Observatory (GRO) is a student organization that monitors risk, traditional and non-traditional, whether it affects the public sector, private sector, or civil society. As an affiliate of the Master of Global Affairs Students’ Association at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, we cultivate expertise and professionalism through debate, publication, events, and industry outreach. We prize diversity of identity, experience, and opinion as a crucial part of our method.


 

Indigenous Policy Initiative

The Indigenous Policy Initiative (IPI) is a graduate student-led initiative that aims to provide a platform to discuss Indigenous issues f rom a policy-focused lens. IPI is committed t o promoting awareness of Indigenous issues and encouraging the enrolment of Indigenous students at the Munk School.

The Mental Health Policy Initiative (MHPI) is a student-led organization whose mission is to build the policy capacity of mental health initiatives at Munk. Our goals include increasing awareness, advocacy, community-building, and support to Munk students. We are an inclusive, forward thinking, passionate team excited to bring an intersectional lens to policy making, drive change, and bring a mental health focus to the Munk School community.

The Munk School Black Students Association (MSBSA) strives to foster the representation of Black and racialized communities within the Munk School. Policy innovation initiative

The Policy Innovation Initiative (Pii) is a student-led think tank focused on generating innovate strategies and solutions to a vast array of policy issues. Pii’s aim is to assist emerging public policy professionals develop their understanding of how policy-making is impacted by political, economic, social, cultural, technological, and environmental forces, and gain practical professional skills along the way. At Pii, analysts not only choose to research, analyze, and propose a solution to an issue that they are passionate about, but produce a deliverable of their choice in presenting their solution to expert policy professionals at an established forum.

Public Good Initiative

The Public Good Initiative (PGI) is a student-led pro bono consulting organization whose goal is to build capacity in Ontario’s non-profit sector through partnerships & policy consulting services. Our student consultants are matched with non-profit organizations and play a vital role in supporting projects from beginning to end. Consultants gain experience working with clients while learning valuable skills to help prepare them for a career in public policy.

Spectrum

Spectrum promotes increased visibility for LGBT+ individuals in global affairs and public policy sectors by offering the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. Spectrum hosts panels, workshops, and events to host conversations on LGBT+ policy and global affairs and provide professional development opportunities to LGBT+ students and allies at Munk.
