Academic, Employment: Postdoctoral Fellow
The Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy is looking to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow for a project on developing country sovereign debt markets. This new project investigates the challenges that arise as countries seek to develop local-currency bond markets while simultaneously funding economic development.
Area of Research:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct original research under the supervision of Professor Mark Manger and collaborate with other researchers to analyze the political economy of developing country sovereign borrowing.
Description of duties:
Responsibilities include developing and coordinating research activities, managing and analyzing project data, and publishing research related to the project. The Postdoctoral Fellow will devote 75 percent of their time to working on the project, with the remainder devoted to independent research and publishing. There is no teaching obligation as part of the appointment.
This position is open to applicants regardless of citizenship and nationality, although Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents will be given priority. Logistical support is available for candidates requiring a Canadian work permit.
Salary: Postdoctoral stipend of $50,000 per year
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should have a demonstrated research interest in international political economy, including substantive knowledge of international finance or a closely related field of global public policy. Candidates with experience in developing countries are especially welcome to apply.
- PhD in political science, international relations, public policy, development studies, economics, or a related field, with a focus on international financial and monetary relations, or similar, is required by the start date. Applicants without a PhD should explain their plans for completing their degree by the position start date.
- Strong quantitative skills, in particular econometrics and quantitative text analysis
- Experience working with R and/or Python for the purpose of quantitative data analysis
- Applicants must not currently hold a postdoctoral appointment at the University of Toronto
- Relocation to the Greater Toronto Area will be required

The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow (pro-rated for those holding a partial appointment) recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work.
Employment as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto is covered by the terms of the CUPE 3902 Unit 5 Collective Agreement.
