Partner Council

The GII Partner Council is composed of key stakeholders involved in the strategic planning for the program. Council members are involved on a voluntary basis as advisors for the program.

Joseph Wong is the founder of the Global Ideas Institute, Vice Provost and Associate Vice-President at the University of Toronto, and the Ralph and Roz Halbert Professor of Innovation at Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. Professor Wong is the author of many academic articles and several books, and created the REACH Project.
Teresa Kramarz is the Director of Munk One, a program for first year undergraduate students at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, and Co-Director of the Environmental Governance Lab alongside Matthew Hoffmann and Steven Bernstein. An expert on international organizations and global governance, with emphasis on global environmental politics, her work has examined the impact of the World Bank’s public-private partnerships on democracy, innovation, and financially sustainable conservation governance, the legitimacy of the World Bank as a global knowledge actor, and the local/global relationship in the provision of global public goods.
Kristen Ligers is the Director, Programs at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy.  She provides leadership, strategic direction and oversight for the admissions and recruitment, program delivery, professional development, career services and alumni programming for the Master of Global Affairs and Master of Public Policy programs.  Co-curricular programming such as the Global Ideas Institute and Reach Alliance also fall within her portfolio.

Before joining Munk in the fall of 2019, Kristen spent 18 years at the Rotman School of Management with a focus on program services and student life in Professional MBA and Specialized masters programs, as well as Open Enrollment non-degree Executive Education programs.  Kristen has a Master of Education and certificate in Human Resources Management from the University of Toronto and a B.A. in Anthropology.

Josie Fung is the chief collaborator, facilitator, and strategist at the Rotman School’s I-Think. She brings together educators and leaders from diverse backgrounds to engage deeply in conversations around education and systems change. Before finding her passion in this field, Josie moved through various industries, including tech and finance. She is curious about how she can help people come up with more creative ideas, more of the time.
Rosemary Evans was named principal of University of Toronto Schools (UTS) in February 2011. UTS was established in 1910 as a site for training secondary school teachers in Ontario.During her tenure Rosemary has re-established UTS as a school-based partner for the Master of Teaching Program at OISE and solidified the affiliation relationship with the University of Toronto. Rosemary received her B.A. in History from Western University and her M.A., B.Ed., and MBA from the University of Toronto.
David Montemurro has been active in initial teacher education programs since 2007. An advocate of strong university and high school partnerships, David has initiated teacher education cohorts housed within high schools with a focus on urban education, global citizenship and sustainability education. Embracing experiential and service-learning as part of his pedagogical practice, David routinely collaborates with local community organizations, NGO’s and international schools. In addition to his research and publications in teacher preparation, global citizenship education, culturally responsive pedagogy and sustainability education, David’s recent focus is on internationalizing initial teacher education where he is currently researching global competency frameworks as conceptual guides for beginning teachers’ practice.
As Program Assistant at the Munk School of Public Policy and Global Affairs, Jenna Chadwick brings over 10 years of administrative and customer service experience to the prestigious Master of Public Policy program. She works closely with and provides support to the MPP students, faculty and staff.

Prior to joining the University of Toronto, Jenna worked in the field of real-estate development and interior design. Her experience also includes work as a freelance artist (painter and calligrapher).

Jenna studied Psychology at the University of Western Ontario, and Oil Painting in New York City.

Monica Hahm is the Director of Development for the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy and its constituent units. She provides leadership, strategic direction, and priority setting in the development and implementation of the Munk School’s campaigns.

A senior fundraising executive, Monica brings extensive experience in campaign development, strategic planning and prospect development. Prior to joining the Munk School of Global Affairs, she served the Faculty of Arts & Science with distinction for 15 years, holding a series of increasingly responsible positions within the Office of Advancement. Monica is an exceptionally talented and committed advancement professional who has kept the Advancement program on a continued upward trajectory, most recently, as the Interim Assistant Dean & Executive Director of Advancement, for the Faculty of Arts & Science, assuming overall responsibility for the Faculty’s successful component of the Boundless Campaign. She has led a high-performance team with responsibility for fundraising, alumni affairs, donor relations, events and communications and is a member of the University’s senior advancement leadership team.

Monica has also held a number of positions in Advancement at U of T including the Division of University Advancement and the Faculty of Medicine. Monica is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) and an alumna of the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Exceptionality in Human Learning, as well as a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language.

Sole Fernandez is the Professional Development and Alumni Relations Coordinator at Master of Global Affairs Program.
Ariana Bradford Ariana Bradford is Executive Director of the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.

She provides leadership and strategic direction for the overall mission of the School, including programming and outreach, revenue generation, and business administration activities, and ensures the efficient and effective management of the School’s resources. Administrative oversight includes finance, human resources, communications and branding, IT, facility operations and services and space management, capital and renovation project management, governance, as well as risk management.

Prior to joining the Munk School in 2019, Ariana was Director, Strategic Planning & Operations, at Medicine by Design, a multi-faculty, multi-institution regenerative medicine research initiative led by the University of Toronto. Previously, she was Director, Custom Executive Programs at the Rotman School of Management and launched Rotman’s first overseas office in London, UK as Director, Global Outreach. Before joining U of T, Ariana was Director, Communications, for the Canada China Business Council, and held positions at Boston University’s Centre for International Health focused on training clinicians from emerging economies and overseeing international public health projects.

Ariana has served on the board of the City Women’s Network in the UK,  is a member of U of T’s Connaught Committee and a mentor in several U of T programs. Ariana holds a BA in East Asian Studies and Political Science from Trinity College, U of T, and an MA in Journalism from Western University.

Gillian Mathurin

Gillian Mathurin joined the Munk School in August 2018 as the Director, Strategic Communications and Public Engagement, leading the school’s communications and events teams.

Ms. Mathurin has nearly 15 years’ experience in non-profit policy, advocacy and communications, most recently at AIDS-Free World and the Stephen Lewis Foundation. As AIDS-Free World’s Director of Communications, she worked on issues of sexual violence, HIV and discrimination, and was instrumental in launching the Code Blue Campaign to end impunity for sexual exploitation and abuse by UN peacekeeping personnel. At the Stephen Lewis Foundation, she worked to raise the profile of grassroots organizations turning the tide of HIV and AIDS in Africa, and helped launch the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.

Kathleen Gnocato is the Director, Product Development & Strategy with MaRS Partnerships. In this role, Kathleen convenes and supports start-ups, clients, and partners as they work together to navigate industries in the midst of disruption and change. Kathleen’s professional background includes an advisory role at Canada’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and collaborative projects for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies and the MaRS Centre for Impact Investing. With a passion for innovation and entrepreneurship, Kathleen is also the Program Director of the Global Ideas Institute based out of the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.

Kathleen holds a Master’s of Global Affairs from the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy and a BAH from Queen’s University.

Zachary Johnston

Zachary Johnston, Program Director.

Zachary is the Program Director for the Global Ideas Institute.

Zachary is a Senior Venture Manager and the Stream Lead for the Artificial Intelligence Stream at the Creative Destruction Lab – Toronto at the Rotman School of Management. Along with his current work with the GII and CDL, Zach spent time at the Centre for Financial Regulation and Inclusion (Cenfri) in Cape Town, South Africa, where his research focused on the future of work and digital skills training in the developing world. Zachary holds a Master’s of Global Affairs from the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto, and a BA in International Relations from Western University.

Anupam Chaudri

Anupam Chaudri, Program Assistant

Anupam has over 5 years experience in program management and delivery. She joined the Munk School as a Program Assistant to support MPP and MGA faculty as they transitioned to online learning during the pandemic. She has previously served on the Board of Directors for the Secord Neighbourhood Centre, supporting the delivery of services to underprivileged communities and coordinating youth engagement programming. She holds an Honours B.A. in International Relations and Contemporary Asian Studies.

Angelina Ouyang

Angelina Ouyang, Operations Manager

Angelina is a final-year candidate in the Master of Global Affairs program at the University of Toronto, where she also completed her undergraduate degree in Political Science. Her interests are in sustainability, environmental, and climate change. Her work this summer at Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) has bridged her incoming interests with innovation and technology. Her goal is to support and eventually drive sustainable strategies for organizations in Canada and globally.

 
Oksana Nikitenko

Oksana Nikitensko, Mentor Program Manager

Oksana Nikitenko is a second year Master of Global Affairs candidate at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. She completed her Bachelor of Arts at McGill University with a major in Political Science and a double minor in Social Entrepreneurship and Communication. Oksana’s interests encompass social entrepreneurship and innovation for marginalized communities and how they can be used for domestic and international development. This summer, she has worked with Engineers Without Borders as an Evaluation Coordinator and oversaw the monitoring and evaluation in the Fellowships, Marketing, and Community departments. Oksana hopes to continue working with impact measurement and promoting sustainable systemic change for the future.

 

Mduduzi Mhlanga

Mduduzi Mhlanga, Partner Network Manager.

Mduduzi Mhlanga is in his last year of the Master of Global Affairs program looking to specialize in global markets and innovation. He attained his Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Toronto Mississauga where he gained valuable experience in research and development. His work in development continued through his role as a researcher for the Reach alliance and a mentor and now Partner Network Manager for the Global Ideas Institute. Following his Master’s he hopes to work in management consulting.

Sohailia Saywack

Sohailia Saywack, Content Manager

Sohailia Saywack is a second-year Master of Global Affairs candidate at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. Her focus is on improving social wellbeing. Prior to Munk, Sohailia completed a Master of Arts in Sociology at the Western University where she modelled international survey data to examine associations between social, economic, and political inequalities and electoral corruption in 36 democracies. Sohailia also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Ryerson University.

Over the past year, Sohailia has been working at Openly, an Ontario-based social impact strategy and consulting firm based. At Openly she evaluates programs and projects and works on the development of theories of change and strategic plans for national and international organizations focused on themes such as socio-economic development, education, and healthcare. Recently, Sohailia also spent time as an International Development Intern at WACC Global, assisting with the INGO’s flagship Global Media Monitoring Project – the largest longitudinal study on gender inequality in the media – with over 120 participating nations.

Dorottya Szekely

Dorottya Szekely, Alumni Relations and External Content Manager

Dorottya is the Alumni Relations and External Content Manager for the Global Ideas Institute.

Dorottya Szekely is a second-year Master of Global Affairs student at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy with a specialization in Human Rights & Global Justice. Dorottya has spent extensive time working with refugees in Toronto’s newcomer settlement sector, as well as volunteering with asylum-seekers in Paris, France. Dorottya’s main research interests include global migration governance, sustainable development, and evidence-based migration policy. This past summer, Dorottya was an intern with the Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC), part of the International Organization for Migration. At GMDAC she worked to support migration data collection, dissemination, and use. Dorottya is also a Harney Graduate Research fellow for 2021-22 and holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto where she majored in Political Science, with a double minor in Sociology, and Women and Gender Studies.
