Biography

Dr. Daniel Munro is a Senior Fellow in the Innovation Policy Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto, a Research Fellow at the Brookfield Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Ryerson University, and Researcher in Residence at Actua—Canada’s largest youth STEM outreach organization. Previously, he was Associate Director of Public Policy at the Conference Board of Canada (2008-2017) and Senior Analyst at the Council of Canadian Academies (2007-2008). Dan’s research spans science, technology and innovation policy; skills and education; and applied ethics, including the ethics of innovation.

In 2006-7, Dan was Assistant Professor of Philosophy and the Democracy and Diversity Postdoctoral Fellow in the Forum for Philosophy and Public Policy at Queen’s University. He has taught political science and philosophy at the University of Ottawa, the University of Toronto and Western University where he received the Award of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. His academic research has been published in the Journal of Political PhilosophyContemporary Political TheoryEthics and Politics Review, and the Journal of International Migration and Integration.

Dan co-hosts The Ethics Lab—a weekly radio show on ethical issues on CityNews Ottawa; he writes on innovation, technology and ethics for a variety of publications, including CIGI Online, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, Policy Options, Financial Post and Maclean’s Magazine; and he has appeared on radio, television and podcasts, including CBC Radio’s The 180Ottawa Morning, CTV Morning Live, The Big Story and Explain Like I’m Five.

Dan holds degrees in political science from the University of Toronto (B.A.), Western University (M.A.), and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Ph.D.).
