Biography

Brian Lewis is a Senior Fellow in the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy and Special Advisor with the Ontario Ministry of Finance.

Brian was Chief Economist and Assistant Deputy Minister of the Office of Economic Policy (OEP) in the Ontario Ministry of Finance from March 2015 to December 2021.

In that role Brian led the development of advice to the Ontario government on economic performance, forecasting, analysis and policy.  He also played a leading role on statistics policy and practices.

Previously, Brian was Director of the Strategy and Integration Branch in the Prevention Office in the Ontario Ministry of Labour.  In this role he led several aspects of the transformation of the provincial occupational health and safety system, including delivering the first provincial integrated system-wide occupational health and safety strategy and annual report.

Earlier in his career, Brian worked in the Ontario Ministry of Finance in progressively senior roles in the areas of economic and revenue policy, forecasting and analysis.

Prior to joining the Ontario Public Service, Brian taught economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, Brock University and the University of Alberta.  He also studied economics at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo Ontario and the University of Alberta in Edmonton.
