Biography

Eric Jennings is the distinguished professor of the history of France and the Francophone World at the University of Toronto (Victoria College). His books include Vichy in the Tropics (Stanford), Curing the Colonizers (Duke), Dalat and the Making and Undoing of French Indochina (California),  Free French Africa in World War II (Cambridge), Perspectives on French Colonial Madagascar (Palgrave), and most recently Escape from Vichy: the Refugee Exodus to the French Caribbean (Harvard).  All of his books have also appeared in French and one in Vietnamese. He has received a John Simon Guggenheim fellowship, support from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Gilbert Chinard, Alf Heggoy, Prix des Ambassadeurs, and Jean-François Coste book prizes as well as the Palmes académiques.
