Biography
BIO
A historian of early modern France, Paul Cohen pursues research interests in a range of distinct areas: the formation of nation-states; the social history of languages; the invention of linguistic nationalism; and early modern empire. He also publishes widely on issues of contemporary concern in France. He taught at the Université Paris-8 (Vincennes-St Denis) before joining the University of Toronto, where he directed the Centre for the Study of France and the Francophone World between 2010 and 2017.
