Biography

Marion Bogo joined the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work in 1979 as a Tutor/Social Work Practice Professor. Today she is a full Professor in the Faculty and an Honorary Research Fellow at Laurea University of Applied Sciences, Finland.

She teaches direct clinical social work practice, social work supervision, and the theory and practice of social work education. Her primary research interests focus on competency for professional practice including social work education, field education, and clinical social work practice and supervision. In her research, she has developed and tested a holistic model of competence, field education models, and the use of simulation in teaching and assessing student and practitioner competence.

She has received many awards, with recent ones being Doctorate of Laws (honoris causa) LL.D. Memorial University, St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. June 2018; Faculty Lead. Northrop Frye Award, Departmental/Divisional Category. Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work’s Simulation Program. April 2017; Officer. Order of Canada. 2014, Investiture, May 2015; and Significant Lifetime Achievement in Social Work Education Award from the Council on Social Work Education. She is co-PI on externally funded awards including SSHRC Insight grants on ‘Improving Social Work Decision-Making in Situations of Risk and Uncertainty’ (2018-2021) and ‘Evaluating Decision-making and Relationship Competence when Reporting Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect’ (2018 – 2021).
