Biography

Harald Bathelt holds the Canada Research Chair in Innovation and Governance at the Department of Political Science, University of Toronto. He is also cross-appointed in the University of Toronto’s Department of Geography and Planning. His research and teaching interests are in the areas of industrial and economic geography, political economy and methodology, specifically in the analysis of industrial clustering, knowledge generation and innovation processes over distance, and the socio-economic impacts of regional and industrial change. Recent publications encompass books on “The Elgar Companion to Innovation and Knowledge Creation” (Edward Elgar 2017, with Patrick Cohendet, Sebastian Henn and Laurent Simon, “Temporary Knowledge Ecologies” (Edward Elgar 2015, co-edited with Gang Zeng), “Trade Shows in the Globalizing Knowledge Economy” (OUP 2014, with Francesca Golfetto and Diego Rinallo), “Wirtschaftsgeographie – Economic Geography” (UTB 2012, with Johannes Glückler) and “The Relational Economy” (OUP 2011, with Johannes Glückler). He has published many conceptual and empirical articles in leading academic journals and is Editor of the Journal of Economic Geography.
