The Lionel Gelber Prize is a literary award for the world’s best non-fiction book in English on foreign affairs that seeks to deepen public debate on significant international issues. Founded in 1989 by Canadian diplomat Lionel Gelber, the award is presented annually by the Munk School and Foreign Policy magazine.

Ahead of this year’s winner announcement, Janice Stein, chair of the prize jury, spoke with Jeffrey Veidlinger about his shortlisted book, In the Midst of Civilized Europe: The Pogroms of 1918-1921 and the onset of the Holocaust. You can find their talk on Apple, SoundCloud, or Youtube. Learn more about In the Midst of Civilized Europe, and all of this year’s shortlisted books, at the Lionel Gelber Prize website.
