Three years ago, former Wall Street Journal correspondent Robert Steiner set out to try a different journalism training model: rather than turn journalists into field experts, he wanted to try turning experts into journalists.
Now director of the Fellowships in Global Journalism (FGJ) program, Steiner is doing just that. Straying from the traditional journalism school format, the FGJ program equips lawyers, doctors, architects, marketing executives and more with the skills they need to become effective freelancers in their fields.
Steiner recently sat with The Nieman Journalism Lab, housed at Harvard University, to talk about his training approach.
