For the fourth year, the Munk School of Global Affairs and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) have partnered up to present the Contemporary World Speakers series.
Six films from TIFF’s Contemporary World Cinema programme will be featured in the series, where experts from the Munk School will join filmmakers and audiences in an extended discussion following each film’s second screening.
On September 11, Ron Levi, director of Munk School’s Global Justice Lab, will participate in a Q&A session with Israeli filmmaker Shemi Zarhin following the screening of his film, The Kind Words.
Munk School’s founding director Janice Stein will also speak on September 11, in a discussion following director Salem Brahimi’s film Let Them Come. The French/Algerian film is Brahimi’s fiction feature debut.
Robert Austin, project coordinator and lecturer at the Centre for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (CERES) will join director Christian Zübert in discussing the German film One Breath on September 14.
On September 16, Munk School’s director, Stephen Toope will discuss Frenzy, the latest film from Turkish writer-director Emin Alper.
Two discussions close the series on September 17, when Ron Levi dissects the film Much Loved with Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch. Robert Steiner, director of Fellowships in Global Journalism, will join Australian filmmaker Jeremy Sims for a Q&A after his film, Last Cab to Darwin.
