In November, the Centre for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy will host two photo exhibits that capture the resistance to the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968.
In cooperation with the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes in Prague and the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Toronto, the Munk School will present the exhibit “For Your Freedom and Ours”. This exhibit was created on the basis of documents, photographs, and interviews collected from 2008 to 2018 and serves as a record of the fates of those who protested against the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968.
The Munk School will also host a second exhibit, “The Story of an Image: Bare-Chested Man in Front of a Tank”, sponsored by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Ottawa. This photo collection captures the Warsaw Pact invasion of August 1968 and includes the iconic photo of Emil Gallo, a Slovak plumber, standing in front of a Soviet tank.
Both exhibits will run simultaneously from November 5 to 16, 2018, in the cloisters at the Munk School’s Trinity College site.
