In the lead up to the federal election, Munk One , Peace, Conflict and Justice students Mary Ditta, Alex Erickson, Saba Javed, Elizabeth Shaw and Hui Wen Zheng were among a group of Munk School undergraduate students that took part in CBC’s “The National Presents: Face to Face with Federal Party Leaders.” The students—all first-time, undecided voters—had the opportunity to hear directly from federal party leaders Justin Trudeau, Andrew Scheer, Jagmeet Singh and Elizabeth May. The National’s Rosemary Barton hosted the program, which included one-on-one conversations between prospective voters and party leaders.
“As a student and first-time voter, it’s amazing to get the opportunity to meet with and speak to Canada’s federal leaders in-person,” says Shaw, a former Munk One and current PCJ student. “I attended 3 of the 4 Face to Face sessions and got to interact with candidates Justin Trudeau, Elizabeth May and Jagmeet Singh. I even spoke with Prime Minister Trudeau about an issue very dear to my heart — environmental policy. This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am so grateful to the CBC and the Munk School for selecting me. Here’s to a more democratic future for all.”
