The digital economy is critical to Canada’s future prosperity, but the country needs a plan in order to take advantage of growth opportunities. David Wolfe, co-director of the Munk School’s Innovation Policy Lab, is leading a new project that aims to bridge the knowledge gap around information communications technology (ICT).
Wolfe and his team have been awarded a $2.9 million grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) over six years for the project, called Creating Digital Opportunity: Canada’s ICT industry in Global Perspective (CDO).
The CDO project proposes to answer the question: how can Canada best respond to the challenges posed by a rapidly changing digital landscape, while benefiting from emerging opportunities to promote our economic prosperity? A team of 20 investigators representing 16 Canadian universities as well as 13 partner firms, cities and organizations will participate in the project. With support provided by SSHRC, the University of Toronto, lead partner, the Canadian International Council, and other partner universities, firms and organizations, the project commitment totals $5.1 million.
