Smart Sheriff, a child surveillance app mandated by the South Korean government, is supposed to help parents keep their kids safe. But Citizen Lab has uncovered security weaknesses in the app that likely put children at risk.
In their latest report, “Are the Kids Alright? Digital risks to minors from South Korea’s Smart Sheriff application”, Citizen Lab reveals that Smart Sheriff leaves children vulnerable to hackers as their personal information is sent across the internet unencrypted. Authentication weaknesses leave the app susceptible to being hijacked or even a large-scale data compromise.
