Biography

Peter Sekyere is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto specializing in International Relations and Development Studies. Currently, Peter is developing his dissertation proposal, which seeks to examine the strategic behaviour of secession movements in independence struggles in post-colonial Africa. He focuses on why some secession movements unilaterally declare independence to start their independence struggle, whereas others avoid this practice. He has served as an intern at Ghana’s national human rights institution – the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice. Peter was also a fellow of the Norwegian Government Quota Scholarship program in the University of Oslo’s Human Rights Master’s program.
