The Joint Initiative in German and European Studies
Established by a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, or DAAD) with funds from the German Federal Foreign Office and through funds from the University of Toronto, the Joint Initiative in German and European Studies is a program of cross-disciplinary support for research and scholarship at the University of Toronto in the area of German and European studies. The program supports activities such as:
-Dissertation fellowships and research and travel grants, primarily for graduate students in social sciences and humanities
-Exchanges of faculty and graduate students between U of T and German universities.
-A limited number of summer research projects for senior undergraduate students in the area of German and European Studies
-Workshops, seminars, and conferences
Requests for financial support under any of these rubrics must be submitted by the specified deadlines. All applications for support are adjudicated by the Grants Subcommittee. Please note that requests for honoraria and teaching stipends as well as for other non-receiptable expenses are not normally considered eligible.
