Bernardo Bolanos-Guerra

Bernardo Bolanos-Guerra is a lawyer from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He obtained his PhD in Philosophy from the Sorbonne. In Mexico City, he has taught environmental law and political philosophy at the Metropolitan Autonomous University, where he studied how to legally prove the causal connection between hydrometeorological processes and forced displacement due to global environmental change. Recently he has worked on a proposal for international regulation of environmental migration that aims to be realistic and comprehensive.

As a Visiting Professor at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy in the Global Migration Lab (GML), Dr. Bolanos-Guerra will conduct the research project called “Environmentally induced Migration from Central America to North America”. It deals with the potential impact of climate change in Central America on migration to Mexico, the United States and Canada and projects how existing international policies of adaptation aid may be able to address problems experienced by the most vulnerable populations.
