Peter Galadza

Director, Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute of Eastern Christian Studies (MASI)

The Rev. Peter Galadza, PhD is Director of the Sheptytsky Institute of Eastern Christian Studies and Professor of Liturgy at the University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto. He is also Managing Editor of Logos: A Journal of Eastern Christian Studies. Galadza earned his PhD at the University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto in 1994, and his MA in Liturgy at the University of Notre Dame. His MDiv is from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and his BA from the University of Toronto. From 2010 to 2012 he was president of the International Society for the Study of Oriental Liturgy, founded by Robert Taft, SJ. In 2007 he became Supervisor and editor-in-chief of the Slavonic-English Analytical Catalogue of Liturgical Manuscripts in Ukrainian Repositories funded by a three-year research grant from SSHRCC. In 2003-2004 he was a fellow at Harvard University’s Dumbarton Oaks Byzantine Research Center in Georgetown, Washington, DC. In 1999-2000 Galadza served as acting dean of the Lviv Theological Academy, presently the Ukrainian Catholic University. There he founded the Institute of Liturgical Studies. For his work in Ukraine he was awarded the jeweled pectoral cross by Patriarch Lubomyr Husar. For more than ten years Galadza edited Logos: A Journal of Eastern Christian Studies.  Among his publications are three books: The Theology and Liturgical Work of Andrei Sheptytsky (Orientalia Christiana Analecta, Rome: 2004), The Divine Liturgy: An Anthology for Worship. (Ottawa: 2004), and Unité en division: Les lettres de Lev Gillet à Andrei Cheptytsky (Paris: Parole & Silence, 2009) as well as more than 60 scholarly articles and chapters in books.

Galadza is a member, inter alia, of the following organizations or boards:
