Ioana Sendroiu is a PhD Candidate in Sociology at the University of Toronto, where she holds a Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Fellowship. Drawing on political sociology, the sociology of law, and cultural sociology, Ioana’s work looks at how insecure statuses, unsettled moments, or uncertain contexts are understood by individuals and shape the malleability of social structures. Her work has appeared in Poetics, Ethnic and Racial Studies, and Law & Social Inquiry. She is also the author, with Lorne Tepperman and Cinthya Guzman, of Picturing Social Problems (Oxford University Press 2018). Her dissertation is a comparative study of post-Holocaust trials in Romania and France which examines the performance of state power and legitimacy in times of political transition.
