Researcher, Global Justice Lab

Megan Dersnah’s research focuses on the advancement of human rights within global governance institutions, such as the United Nations (UN). She is interested in how women’s human rights issues have been incorporated into mainstream global peace and security, and development discourses and practices. Her Ph.D. research focused on the strategies of UN bureaucrats working to advance the ‘Women, Peace and Security’ agenda within the UN. She completed her Ph.D. in 2016 in Political Science at the University of Toronto. Beyond her Ph.D. research, Megan has experience working as a research consultant for the United Nations, including at UN Women and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. She conducts research primarily on issues related to gender equality and women’s human rights. She has been involved in the UN preparations for the Commission on the Status of Women and in research for the production of UN Women’s flagship report, Progress of the World’s Women.
