Mikkel Jarle Christensen is Associate Professor of the Sociology of Law in the Danish National Research Foundation’s Centre of Excellence for International Courts (iCourts), hosted by the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen. He is the author of original research on the internationalization of criminal law published in journals such as Law & Social Inquiry, Current Sociology and the Leiden Journal of International Law. As part of his research he has developed new research tools aimed at explaining the connection between global transformations of law and politics and more discrete practices of legal elites and other stakeholders who promote new forms of crime control at the international stage. He is currently involved in several collective research projects aimed at expanding the investigation of how criminal law and its practitioners impact regional, international and global governance including a forthcoming volume on Routledge entitled The Internationalization of Criminal Law Practices: Social and Legal Perspectives edited with Ron Levi. In the coming years, Mikkel will lead a new research cluster in iCourts on the impact and power of criminal law in the larger context of global law, regulation and governance.
