Barbara Ehrenreich is the author of 21 books, including The New York Times best sellers, Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America (2001), and Bright-Sided: How Positive Thinking Is Undermining America (2010). Her latest publication is entitled, Living with a Wild God (2014). Ehrenreich is a frequent contributor to The New York Times, Harpers, The Progressive magazine, and Timemagazine, and has appeared on Oprah, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and The Joy Behar Show, to name a few. Before becoming an activist, Ehrenreich studied cell biology and physics, graduating with a degree in physics from Reed College in 1963, and a Ph.D. in cell biology from Rockefeller University in 1968. She has taught at State University of NY, Old Westbury, New York University, University of Missouri at Columbia, and at Sangamon State University. In 2006, Ehrenreich founded United Professionals, an organization described as a nonprofit, non-partisan membership organization for white-collar workers, regardless of profession or employment status. She is an honourary co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America, and also serves on the NORML Board of Directors, the Institute for Policy Studies Board of Trustees, and the Editorial Board of The Nation.
