He has also published on documentary, contemporary cinema, authorship, and stardom. His most recent publications include an anthology examining the relationship between humour and animation entitled Funny Pictures (co-edited with Daniel Goldmark), and Beyond the Screen: Institutions, Networks and Publics of Early Cinema (co-edited with Marta Braun, Rob King, Paul Moore, and Louis Pelletier). In collaboration with Professor Braun, of Ryerson University, Professor Keil has developed the Early Cinema Filmography of Ontario online database, a research project supported by four SSHRC (Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada) grants.  He currently serves on the editorial boards of four academic journals and on one board for film preservation. He has also been awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award from the Faculty of Arts and Science (2014-15) and was a top 20 finalist for TVO’s Lecturer of the Year (2006).
