Biography

Julie Vig is an Assistant Professor in the Department for the Study of Religion. Her research focuses on premodern Sikh and Punjabi cultural production and how it relates to wider cultural worlds and networks of premodern North India (c.1500-1800). Her particular focus is on gurbilās literature and its interactions with Brajbhasha literature. She is also interested in reception history and specifically in the reception of gurbilās texts in the colonial period. In addition to literature and history, she has a research background in anthropology of religion and has done fieldwork on Sikh women’s experiences and self-representations in Montreal.
