Rachel Glowinsky (CERES MA Candidate 2019) received “Best Paper” award at the E3 Graduate Conference hosted jointly by the Conference of Defense Associations Institute (CDA) and the Balsillie School of International Affairs, University of Waterloo on May 7, 2019. Her paper, titled “Hidden: A Study of the Islamic State’s Internet Controls Aimed at Thwarting Western Metadata Collection Efforts,” will be published in the Vimy Papers, annual studies published by the CDA Institute and devoted to critical strategic Security and Defense issues for Canada and Canadians. Rachel’s research pulled open source intelligence to identify trends within the Islamic State’s cyber recruitment and online propaganda efforts in response to the Snowden disclosures.
