CERES Hungarian Studies instructor Eva Tomory received the prestigious Silver Cross of Merit from the Government of Hungary on 19 March 2016. She was awarded the Cross in recognition of her contributions to preserving Hungarian language and culture. The award was presented by Bencze Tuzson (Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister and Minister State for Government Communication), Dr. Bálint Ódor (Hungarian Ambassador to Canada), and Dr. Stefánia Szabó (Consul General of Hungary in Toronto) at the Hungarian Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto.

Dr. Tomory has taught Hungarian language in the program for many years and is dedicated to her students. She not only strives to engage her classes in learning the language but immerses them in the culture with a personal touch. From the beginner-level Hungarian language courses to advanced studies, Dr. Tomory’s outstanding contributions to her students’ academic growth have made her an irreplaceable figure in the program.
