CERES and JIGES faculty member Prof. James Retallack discusses his recent work and accomplishments with the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch-Dienst, or DAAD).  Prof. Retallack, a distinguished expert in the Germany’s Imperial Era, is currently working on a book, “The Workers’ Emperor”: August Bebel’s Struggle for Social Justice and Democratic Reform, 1840-1913. Bebel was a leading influence in the social-democratic movement in 1860s Saxony and is considered one of the founding fathers of Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD).
