Contemporary Asian Studies student Alice Niu will be travelling to Burma this summer to serve as the Canadian Embassy’s Summer Political Intern in Yangon. This will be Alice’s second trip to Burma in less than a year; she was one of ten CAS and Anthropology students to travel there during Reading Week for an International Course Module led by Professor Joshua Barker.

After her first visit to Burma, Alice was yearning to return and learn more about the culture and its people. As an intern in the political section, Alice will conduct research to draft reports on issues regarding Burma’s governance, human rights, health, regional security, and more. She will also assist in the planning and delivery of incoming missions, delegations and high level visits to the Canadian Embassy.

Alice was also the President of the Contemporary Asian Studies Student Union in 2014-15, and is completing the final year of her undergraduate program, with a double major in Contemporary Asian Studies and Ethics, Society and Law. Congratulations Alice!
