The Asia Pacific Reader is thrilled to announce a joint effort with the East Asia Forum, a long standing academic journal published by the East Asian Studies Graduate Student Union. The combined efforts will produce an annual journal on East Asia.

Burma Cyclone Relief Benefit screening of ‘Mystic Ball’

Asian Institute cosponsors a special benefit with proceeds going directly to aid the Burmese people featured in this film and their families. Director Greg Hamilton will be in attendance. The June 4, 7 pm screening will take place at the Bloor Cinema.

Installation launch: The Language of Fruits and Vegetables

This projection installation is a lyrical sequence of 252 images by the Hong Kong photo-artist Lee Ka-sing, based on a poem by Leung Ping-Kwan. The visuals are rephotographed from a large library of images Lee shot of Hong Kong in the past twenty years.

Debating the Headlines: Tibet

The Asian Institute organizes an event to debate the headlines on Tibet, on April 8, 6:00-8:00 pm. Professor Tsering Wangdu Shakya, world renowned and widely published Tibetan scholar, is invited to give a lecture to be followed by a Q&A session.
