The Asian Institute and the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies join in the call by concerned, international voices for the Myanmar authorities to immediately and unconditionally release filmmaker Ma Aeint who was detained while leaving her house on 5 June and is currently held at an undisclosed place.

Ma Aeint is a producer and co-writer on “Money Has Four Legs,” which was selected for the New Currents competition of the Busan International Film Festival in 2020 and is screening this month at the Udine Far East Film Festival. Ma Aeint participated regularly in regional and international events in support of independent filmmaking in Asia.
