The Dr. David Chu Program in Asia-Pacific Studies at the Asian Institute at the Munk School of Global Affairs seeks photographic representations of the Asia-Pacific (East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific) that incites us to imagine the region from unique perspectives.The photos may have been taken in any location within or outside the region (including Toronto). The judges are seeking photographs of high artistic quality that offer though provoking images, including those that may be highly abstract. All entries will be considered for prizes as well as displayed on the Chu Program’s website and promotional materials. The first prize photo will be displayed at the Asian Institute.

PRIZES
First Prize: $100 and exhibition of the photograph at the Asian Institute
Second & Third Prize: a book of the entrant’s choice that has been authored by a core faculty member of the Asian Institute (subject to availability and cost restrictions by the Chu Program Director) and the exhibition of the photograph at the Asian Institute.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
-Entrants must email the completed entry form and the images to ai.asianstudies@utoronto.ca by January 19, 2015 at 9:00 AM.
-The subject of the email should be “Imaging the Asia-Pacific Photo Contest Entry”
– If the total file size of the attachments exceeds the allowable limit of your email server, the images may be emailed separately in consecutive emails.
-Images must be a minimum of 1600×1200 and 300dpi and must be jpeg format. Higher resolution images are strongly suggested.
OFFICIAL RULES
PERTAINING TO THE PHOTOS:
Registered undergraduate and graduate students from any of the University of Toronto’s three campuses are eligible to enter the contest. Each Entrant may enter up to five (5) photographs. Photographs must be in digital format as jpegs. No print of film submissions will be accepted. However, photos need not be taken with a digital camera; scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints are acceptable. Photos submitted must be taken at any time prior to the entry deadline.
Photos that include sculptures, statues, paintings, or other works of art will be accepted provided they do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud (when photographing someone else’s work, the object must be in the environment and not a full-frame close-up of the art in question. Photographs should not contain identifiable persons. Entrants should submit an appropriate caption for each entry that briefly describes the image and indicates where the photo was taken. The photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the Contestant Entrant. By entering the Contest, the Entrant acknowledges and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the Entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the photograph, The entrant accepts all responsibility for any copy right issues that may arise. Contest Judges reserve the right not to accept any photograph without explanation.
By entering the contest, the Entrant grants permission to the Dr. David Chu Program in Asia- Pacific Studies to use the photo on the Asian Institute and Dr. David Chu Program in Asia-Pacific Studies program websites as well as in other promotional materials.
JUDGING
Photographs will be judged by the Chu Program Director and one or more additional faculty or staff members affiliated with the Asian Institute, or an external photography expert. Winners will be decided within one week after the close of the Contest, and will be notified directly unless unforeseen circumstances necessitate a postponement of cancellation. Winners will be announced on February 11, 2015.
RIGHT TO SUSPEND OR CANCEL CONTEST
The Sponsor reserves the right to suspend or cancel the contest for any reason
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
By entering this Contest, all entrants agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless the Sponsor and its affiliates from any claims, losses and damages arising out of their participation in the Contest or any Contest-related activities.
