Over the next week the Asian Institute will celebrate Asian film with two special events in partnership with the Reel Asian International Film Festival.

On Friday, November 9 John Woo’s 1986 Hong King film classic A Better Tomorrow, which tells the story of an ex-gangster attempting to reform his life and reconnect with his estranged police officer brother, will be shown on 35 mm at Innis Town Hall. David Wu, one of the film’s editors and a director in his own right, will be on hand for a question and answer discussion after the screening.

Yim Ho trained at the London Film School and is widely regarded as a leader of the Hong Kong New Wave of the 1980s. He began his career in television production, and over his long career expanded his work behind and in front of the cameras to include film direction, screenwriting, and acting. On Tuesday, November 13, he will discuss his journey and craft with Professor Bart Testa of Cinema Studies at the University of Toronto.
