The Taiwan government, in collaboration with the Asian Institute and the Asia-Pacific Studies Program, recently sent ten of the University of Toronto’s top students from Arts and Science and Engineering (including five Asia-Pacific Studies majors) on a field school to Taiwan. Accompanied by Asian Institute Director, Professor Joseph Wong, the student delegates were invited to contemplate the topic “Global Taiwan,” and met with government officials and civil society groups, as well as presenting papers to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and students at National Taiwan University. You can follow their experiences in Taiwan and view their photos through the Asia Pacific Reader blog.

“Taiwan is really great! We’ve been interviewing many important people and have had the chance to discuss with them on a wide rage of issues. I feel so lucky to be a ASI major!!” -Pierre Arnaud Barry-Camu, Asia-Pacific Studies major

The trip was such a success, the Taiwan government has invited Professor Wong to return next year with a new group of students.
