Dr. Wu received his PhD in anthropology from the University of Chicago, though his work straddles anthropology and history. Wu’s doctoral dissertation revisited the Chinese Cultural Revolution, offering a perspective which focuses on intellectual dissident movements. He has indicated that he looks to continue to work in this area, though with a focus on the Democracy Wall movement of the 1970s. Wu is described by senior colleagues in the field as among the “top 2 or 3” China specialists of his generation. He is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Michigan.
